Together Fairness Works is a Canadian Labour Congress campaign and helps members and our communities to see the importance in unions. The CLC has released its 2014 Union Advantage statistics which show, very clearly, the benefits of belonging to a union. This information can be found in the link below, on the ETFO website, CLC website, as well as through various social media outlets!

Please be advised, we will be following Regulation 274 as imposed by the Liberal government for all further hiring with SCDSB – Please read the regulation and understand the process.
Should you be considered an unsuccessful applicant to the LTO roster, you are entitled to a debriefing according to the legislation. Please contact the board to arrange for that debriefing and know that we will be engaging in further discussions in September to move forward with this process.

School Visits 2016-2017
School visits for the 2016-2017 school year will begin soon and the schedule is posted below. As always, I will email all LTO members from a scheduled school a couple of days before the visit, provided I have your non-board email.
As always, should you wish to schedule a visit at your school, just call or email the office and we will schedule it at your earliest convenience!

The Ontario Teachers’ Federation (OTF) and the Ontario government are
changing the pension plan’s inflation protection. This change is part
of an agreement to eliminate the pension plan’s 2012 funding shortfall.
Inflation protection after you retire will now be based on three

OCT Mandate Creep
Since it was established in 1996, the Ontario College of Teachers has expanded into areas that are beyond its legislated mandate. There should be a clear separation of roles where the College regulates the teaching profession in the public interest and advocacy for the profession is left to the organizations that represent teachers.
The “mandate creep” on the part of the College creates confusion about its role. It has also led to a misguided use of College human and financial resources and to an increase in staff and budget that College registrants have been forced to pay for. The College revenue comes solely from fees charged for registering with the College.
