* PROTEST the latest OCT fee increase! *
Recently the Council of the Ontario College of Teachers approved the 2014 budget with a $2.7 million increase in expenditures. In order to balance this budget Council approved a 8.7% fee increase. In 2014 the new OCT fee of $150 will be deducted from a teacher’s first pay in January (or sent directly to the College by occasional teachers and teachers on leave).
This amended fee represents a 25% increase from 2012 to 2014.
During the debate over the fee increase it was mentioned by College staff that only 300 members wrote to complain about the last fee increase. It was suggested that the rest of the members either supported the increase or didn’t care. Send a message that you do care! Tell the College that enough is enough and it is time for them to live within their means. Here is a campaign tool for emailing the College on the ETFO website: http://www.etfo.ca/advocacyandaction/octfeeincrease/pages/default.aspx
