SCARRI

SCARRI Clarification.  The SCARRI system only calls an OT based on the locations the OT has selected at schools where they will supply, and are qualified in the correct division (e.g., Primary/Junior). SCARRI will not call members who are not qualified until the OTs with that school and qualification have been exhausted. Then it will look for OTs with that location selected and a different qualification (e.g., Intermediate/Senior). SCARRI will never call out an OT for an assignment to a school if the member does not have that school selected. If a member’s phone is busy when SCARRI calls the system will call again if it exhausts the list and does not fill the absence.

The following message will be on SCARRI until at least Jan. 13, 2012:

‘A reminder to report to the main office prior to the beginning of the instructional day to review student safety plans.’

According to the Education Act you must be at your place of assignment 15 minutes prior to the assigned time. It is during that time that you will be required to review the safety plans. The following is a repeat message.

Before signing, be sure of the following:

 * all information is clear, complete and relevant

 * you have been provided enough time to read and/or listen to the information

 * you understand the information

 * you have an opportunity to ask questions of an administrator as required

 * you remain comfortable with the assignment

Unless you are satisfied that these conditions have been met to adequately prepare you for a safe teaching experience, you are advised not to sign. Should you find yourself in this position, with no administrative assistance forthcoming, contact your Federation immediately.

INCLEMENT WEATHER

Winter is around the corner. There are times when inclement weather causes assignment cancellations. It is very important that members understand their rights in accordance with the Collective Agreement. All occasional teachers should familiarize themselves with Article 13.10 (a) and (b), and Article17 (a), (b) and (c).
